The server is up now, but we still need to do some monitoring to see how it goes.

Hi All,

To those who are inquiring about the Error Code 403 for VirusTotal on SecureAPlus, we have more information about this at the following URL:

Important Update on 2nd Opinion Scanning with SecureAPlus

Tldr; VirusTotal has asked us to remove it so we are honoring their request in the upcoming update release. Users can still use VirusTotal whenever SecureAPlus blocks something, but will have to do so manually.

What?! What a shame... Really don't know why VirusTotal doesn't want to allow use VT in SecureAPlus, it's a great feature which improve protection.

VirusTotal Policy Change Rocks Anti-Malware Industry | SecurityWeek.Com

"On May 4, VirusTotal (VT) dropped a bombshell that has reverberated throughout the anti-malware industry. That bombshell was a two-sentence change to VT's policies: "all scanning companies will now be required to integrate their detection scanner in the public VT interface, in order to be eligible to receive antivirus results as part of their VirusTotal API services." A second amendment requires new applicants to effectively be certified by the Anti-Malware Testing Standards Organization (AMTSO)."

"Owned by Google, VirusTotal is an online service that checks suspicious files against an array of anti-malware products. Since the check is static, it relies heavily on the signature engines of the subscribing vendors. In its own words, it is "a collaborative service to promote the exchange of information and strengthen security on the internet." If a submitted file is found to be malicious, details are circulated to all subscribing companies – and in this sense it is an early and effective threat sharing mechanism.

It's give-and-take system. Basically "You" use our data but you have you share yours with VirusTotal(and other participating security companies). And since SecureAPlus doesn't have its own engine, it doesn't have anything to share.

I'm actually surprised it took VirusTotal this long to enforce the new policy. It's unfortunate for SecureAPlus users, however like mentioned above, in the link provided by @truestampede, users are still protected by the application whitelisting and Universal AV.

We will release the new SecureAPlus update tomorrow.
For the server issue, it will need quite a lot of work on the server side to resolve the issue. We will definitely try to improve this. At the moment, during heavy traffic, some users may experience some delay in retrieving the scan result.

We have just released SecureAPlus v4.4.0.

In this version you may notice some color changes as we are preparing to do theme for SecureAPlus.

Here are the details of the changes:
Bugs fixed:
- Sometimes SecureAPlusUI.exe crash when accessing license page.

Modifications:
- Remove VirusTotal feature. For the details, please refer to: An Important Update on Second Opinion Scanning & VirusTotal
- Improve the responsiveness when showing Universal AV scan result.
- Remove "OK" button from the dialog that showing the application is blocked and required admin approval.
- Some pictures and colors changed to prepare for themes.
- Chinese translation.
- Indonesian translation.

Hi

I was using the earlier version till I removed it because your server was always busy and scan result takes a long time to return.

So without VT feature SecureAPlus will be weakened

I tried using this, but there's no stop button on scanning... it stuck on finishing results and never returned them from the server.

Uninstalled.

Bugs Fixed:
  • SecureAPlusUI.exe crash when accessing license page.
Modifications:

  • Improve the responsiveness when showing Universal AV scan result.
  • Remove “OK” button from the dialog that showing the application is blocked and required admin approval.
  • When there is an error during Universal AV scanning in the Application Whitelisting block dialog, it shows the error message for 30 seconds, before retry. (The error message was only showed for 5 seconds previously.)
  • Remove VirusTotal feature.
  • Changes to pictures and colors for SecureAPlus UI.
  • Traditional & Simplified Chinese translation.
  • Indonesian Translation.
