I was not really that impressed with Webroot when I did the tests.

Have you tested Webroot so far?

I would say that how they dare to price their product for nearly $80,I think $8 would be waste in buying this type of crap. They advertised on their website that its better and faster then norton. No its slow down internet speed and their detection rate is poorer then outdated crapped antivirus.Horrible detection capability I would suggest to go with free avira/avast/mse then installing this crap-ware

How do you find the Avast firewall? Is it as effective as the CO-MO-DO firewall?
I am old user of avast and I find nothing bad in its firewall as some blogs/websites claims.I would not compare it to comodo as comodo have main advantage of its hips but surely with avast you have good protection, its light and install and forget policy which dont give its user annoying pop ups and false warning

An HIPS has nothing to do with a Firewall (a software firewall is designed to control outbound/inbound connections) , an HIPS is to allow or block processes/executables/, Avast Firewall is a basic one, nothing really good , nothing really bad. Comodo Firewall (and others like Online armor,etc...) is a class above (you can create complex and very customizable rules)

That's what I have always thought. Just like Trend Micro you can configure the Windows Firewall to maximum protection and you can have Trend boost it to make it more secure.

Comodo Firewall have the backbone itself from HIPS thus it makes effective but if it does not have a firewall thus its just same pure firewall like others.

If only sygate would still exist I am sure it would be good. Unfortunately it slowly stopped after being acquired by Symantec.

A little tricky question; from these:
"AdBlock , Web of Trust , Do Not Track Plus , NoScript , Lastpass"

How would you list them in order of priority (from most to least important)?

Also why did you choose not to use Avast's WebRep?

Thanks :D

What a coincidence the list I mention is same as I would like to have must on my browser:
1.adblock
2.Wot
3.Dntp
4.Noscript and last
5.Lastpass

I dont choose Avast webrep because i don't think i need it either i didn't need wot but I have become habituated using wot.
This type of linkscan or reputation service of website only saves you from horrible infected websites but even you will get infection from sites which are pass good result results.

P.S. I have got infection downloading dll file from website which was termed "SAFE" site at WOT

WOT is useless to me, reputation mostly given by users that don't have any clue about security.

That would be the user's fault and not WOT.

What was the website?

RE: Stranger Security Setup as on 14.06.2012

Then user cannot blame Web of Trust either.

It's only a site advisor, it will not prevent you from "downloading" harmful files, it's only based on Community feedback and hpHosts and possibly others.

I'm sure you're aware, but WOT isn't like Norton SafeWeb, AVG LinkScanner or BitDefender TrafficLight.

Finally, it's not every day someone downloads a .dll file, but who does that? The user should have checked with VirusTotal or Jotti, before applying it to their system.

What about your Antivirus? It failed to detect the file.

Edit: I'm only saying what I think, you don't have to agree. :)

The whole thing goes like this:
1... Installed Fresh Operating system windows 7.
2...Installed drivers from dvds,
3...Windows updated.
4....Want to make clean system image without any stuff but before this step updated the outdated drivers so I dont have to manually update drivers again when I reinstall system image.
5.... Updated drivers and I needed DLL file during this process for one of my driver and i searched and gone to that site after checking at "WOT"
6...Downloaded file and checked it with virustotal which show file as "clean"
8...Installed the DLL file
9...Started unusual freezing and after looking at running process I have doubt in my mind.
10...Installed hitman pro and scanned which show 3 infection and file was infected.
11.....Clean and reinstalled OS again.

After all this activities maybe i sound "fool' to someone but i am not a computer expert but a learner and what we can do is check our downloads from few resources available on internet but if user still have infection after precaution maybe its a USER fault.

The most important thing to do after installing an OS is to have a working firewall and an antivirus protection (either the windows built-ins or third party applications). This is the most common mistake that a user make in assuming it is safe to proceed with other installations.

RE: Stranger Security Setup as on 14.06.2012

IT is not compulsory bitbizket. Now when I reinstall, I install office, sp1 and drivers before proceeding with AV. But user must remember that these setup files should be clean and not to connect to the internet in this period. Even if they do so they should surf only trusted websites and be sure that Windows defender and Firewall is active.

P.S. I have got infection downloading dll file from website which was termed "SAFE" site at WOT
Thats why time and again I tell users to install TrafficLight or Linkscanner. Even in TrafficLight it is better to install the full desktop edition rather than the plugin as it provides Web scanning+ reputations+ SSL scanning.

So Stranger get TrafficLight or LinkScanner.

Not to disrespect your opinion but i mention this in general. Not all our forum readers here are using legitimate software or OSs. I'm not promoting piracy but that's the fact.

If you're not aware, the full TrafficLight run on service and are still in beta. From my past experience it has issue with NoScript and runs on Java. Also the user may experience browsing slowdown on some webpages. The browser extension is a better option.

Thanks
