Trend Micro is a well-known Japanese IT security company.
Relatively widely used in companies and schools, it was one of the first to bet on the 100% Cloud in 2011, switching its software from PC-Cillin to Titanium products (recently modified).
For 2024, Trend is keeping to this philosophy of betting everything on the Cloud, but strengthening its protections against unknown scripts and threats, while offering a product totally suited to novices.
Let's take a look at all this together.
User interface :
Trend Micro's interface hasn't changed at all over the last few years, but that's not a detriment, as it's still clear and very suitable for novices.
You can even customize it! (which I did with an image of my current anime character ^^ ) . The lack of adjustment may irritate geeks, but the product is not aimed at them.
The software is very light on RAM consumption.
Web protection: 10/10
Trend Micro has powerful Web filtering because it uses a system that I really like: blocking at source!
Even if the URL or threat changes, Trend Micro will continue to block it until the server is changed!
I did go and retrieve some new URLs during the test, but Trend Micro didn't mind, blocking them without a hitch.
Fake crack : 1/1
Trend Micro blocked the file launch because it had little information about the file's reputation.
This is a good thing, but if you're sure of the file, Trend may also block it...
I tried to force the file to open: Trend Micro detected the attack and blocked everything.
Congratulations!
Malware Pack : Remaining 16 files out of 113.
Trend Micro has at last improved its anti-malware engine to match the competition.
As for the rest, Trend maintains its fine reputation. It blocked every launch I tried, and also blocked a GuLoader installation using PowerShell. Trend actually detected the action and stopped the malware installation.
The machine was rendered infection-free.
Congratulations, Trend!
Final scan :
Trend : 0
NPE : 0
KVRT : 0
Final opinion:
Trend Micro retains its fine reputation: light on the system, accessible to a computer novice, automatic and high-performance.
One thing I really appreciated was Trend Micro's improved anti-malware engine, which was the software's biggest drawback...
In 2024, I'd be hard-pressed to find a negative point, as I was really surprised.
Trend Micro is obviously highly recommendable.
