ZoneAlarm Free Firewall installs the Endpoint Forensics Recorder (for anti-bot purposes). This sort of duplicates with Trend Micro functionalities (the AEGIS behavioural blocking) and now you have 2 nosy behavioural blockers drawing resources.

If you are up for running 2 behavioural blockers and wasting resources, then you can install ZoneAlarm firewall. This can lead to severe system instabilities.

I personally, would leave Defender Firewall (Windows Firewall) handle the rules (which is how Trend Micro wants you to proceed by design).
Trend Micro will suspend connections to malicious domains, including C&Cs.

The Trend Micro firewall booster acts like a very lightweight IPS, scanning the traffic with signatures and blocking typical attacks that no firewall alone would block.

That's why I thought I should uninstall Glasswire (that I was using with F-Secure) before I installed the Trend trial, just to make sure it wouldn't be impeded in any way with Trend's (Windows Firewall) firewall booster.

And there's nothing in Task Manager showing a TM process using high CPU? And there were no other app updates that occurred around the same time?

I'm very familiar with trendmicro and yes no updates were needed i always check for updates 3 times and even restart the computer and run a scan after still the issue persists. Not sure if contacting TrendMicro would even help at this point as they don't have physical access to my device and is very hard to replicate. As a matter of fact trident was the one that introduced me to trendmicro in 2019.
