App Review Trend Micro Maximum Security 2025

It is advised to take all reviews with a grain of salt. In extreme cases some reviews use dramatization for entertainment purposes.

TuxTalk I'm going to ask a question, I purchased a Trend Micro license and would like to know if I can update the installation that I still have with 6 months of validity.
When updating, will the date accumulate or not?
Very interesting question… I’m not going to burn up my 6 month trials to find out. Once bitten twice shy, don’t you know. Hopefully someone has the answer. ✌️
Don’t believe any of the trials that I’ve had with others would add any time.

Thank you for your reply, yes I would like to know if it is possible to accumulate or if I lose the validity period I have.
TuxTalk said in one of its messages that it managed to accumulate the number of days of validity of the license.
I'm waiting for someone to confirm if so.

All the OG members will know I’m that Trend guy.
I’ve been using it for years, since the PC-Cillin days. Was an active Beta user for them as well. They have definitely improved since the those days.

Are they perfect, probably not. No of the AV’s are. It’s all about the users behaviour.
Will this protect the average “noob” user, yes.

If you look through the Malware Samples Archive you’ll see old test that I use to do with Trend.

Their UI is dated and needs an update, but why fix it when it’s not broken? Still looks slick and easy to navigate.

They have other great products that also come in the suite as well.

Amoxicillin is a much better broad spectrum solution to infection*
*The likes of PC-Cillin which is a clever play on words referencing Penicillin, is not an Antiviral drug, but in fact an Antibiotic.
Wait until they place you on Fluoroquinolones class (Cipro, Levaquin the big boys) of antibiotics and start ripping tendons or an aortic dissection out of nowhere even months after cessation of the medication. (Achilles tendon is the most effected one).

I have a license for trend Max and AV Plus... I registered them in my account, just never bothered to install either one, because the people on MWT's didn't seem to think it was that good.

I guess If I tried it out I would use AV+ since I just have one PC, and it looks like MAX doesn't offer any real security advantages over AV+

When I got to this friend's house, he gave me a CD case with a red cover that said PC-Cillin 2000. I don't know if there were any more free programs on it, because I didn't get to explore the files to see if there was anything else on the CD. As soon as I'd finished installing PC-Cillin, I left his daughter's room. Her father and I went into the living room to talk and then his daughter came home from work. I got to install it two or three times. At the time, people were a bit afraid of messing with things, for fear of problems. Because it was difficult to get hold of a Windows 95/98/2000 installation CD. :)

I think so, it seems that at the time they were pasted into PC magazines - I even saw them a few times. That was the story of how I came to know AV PC-Cillin, now better known as Trend Micro. ;)

I found this example at the bottom of a drawer from a MaximumPC magazine. Then there were also the utility freeware discs.

As you know if you have read some of my posts, I gave up on Gen digital products, they just kept giving me a variety of mini problems and annoyances.

Kaspersky would now be my first choice, Trend or Eset are second.

So I have Trend Max on my clean install, and I think I'll just stick with this, especially since Shadowra gave it such a glowing review.

Sorry for the late reply, yes just contact their support on the chat and they are able to help you, also for @BigWrench

Kinda off topic, but can i run Trend Micro maximum security with an firewall like Zone Alarm, or SEP just the firewall component? Asking cause as far as i know it does not have a firewall. If yes, which one between Zone Alarm and SEP firewall should i go with?

ZoneAlarm Free Firewall installs the Endpoint Forensics Recorder (for anti-bot purposes). This sort of duplicates with Trend Micro functionalities (the AEGIS behavioural blocking) and now you have 2 nosy behavioural blockers drawing resources.

If you are up for running 2 behavioural blockers and wasting resources, then you can install ZoneAlarm firewall. This can lead to severe system instabilities.

I personally, would leave Defender Firewall (Windows Firewall) handle the rules (which is how Trend Micro wants you to proceed by design).
Trend Micro will suspend connections to malicious domains, including C&Cs.

The Trend Micro firewall booster acts like a very lightweight IPS, scanning the traffic with signatures and blocking typical attacks that no firewall alone would block.

Could it be that Trend Micro only offers its own VPN program in a few countries? I searched the German Trend Micro website for the option to purchase a VPN program, but found no answer.

They offer it in the US, as part of Premium Security. This offers VPN, premium technical support (for any IT issues), Anti-scam and identity/breach monitoring with insurance.

It doesn't seem to be available in EU, because identity monitoring (according to Trend Micro) is not officially supported...

Trend Micro is slightly lagging behind on the home software offerings...

Well, then I'll just use the F-Secure VPN. However, I have the impression that the server in Zurich, which I use to watch the Formula 1 race on SRF, is always overloaded when a Formula 1 race is on. I'm probably not the only customer who's had this idea. :)

Hello everyone, how is Trend Micro currently performing for PC gamers? Does it slow down performance for those who only use their PC for competitive gaming? Has anyone compared it to Microsoft Defender in terms of performance?

Well, I’m not a gamer, however I watch tv on my pc constantly, and Trend Micro has never been an issue for me. I keep an eye on the cpu usages when it’s in full screen, on my 2nd screen, and it’s very easy on resources. I’d definitely recommend it. ✌️

Sure it will do better in performance than microsoft defender. Im kind of competive mmorpg gamer, if it counts as gamer and my nephew plays competive fortnite on my pc. When i had trend micro on my pc it would always go into gaming/silent mode while gaming so it really is gamer friendly antivirus

On my sisters laptop wich has i5 intel 11 or 12 gen cpu and integrated intel iris, it runs trend micro and never had any slowdowns even the laptop isnt for gaming because of integrated gpu.

Also trend micro is kinda install & forget, so there is not much to set up so there is no nags or firewall etc alerts going on, in my opinion its very gamer friendly
