Hot Take uBlock Stripped - Dynamic Filtering is available on the webstore

Firefox on Linux scores 12.6 (with all GPU settings enabled 12.8) in Speedometer 3.1, Brave Origin (adblock disabled) 20.2

Jetstream 2 Firefox 176.137 and Brave 278.222

This seems to be a known problem on Linux for fairly recent AMD processors (I have a Ryzen 7 U5700 of nearly 2 years old).

For comparison: when I first got my laptop FF scored 11.2 and Brave 14.4 (both on Speedometer 3.0).
In 20 months Brave improved a lot (for reference UnGoogled Chromium now runs 14.6).

I am experiencing an issue on [CLICK] with the filter list 'Kees1958 most-used EU+US ads & tracking networks'. When enabled, live streams [CLICK] and video clips [CLICK] fail to load or display. Disabling the filter resolves the issue. Additionally, clicking 'Reset to default' does not work properly, as the 'Kees1958 most-used EU+US ads & tracking networks' list remains unchecked.

@skiper

This video plays for me

I can´t check the streaming link you provided

So could you open the Dynamic DNS filtering montor and try allowing blocked third-party?

When you click expand (forward icon) it shows which filter lists blocks something.

I figured it out using Dynamic DNR filtering. I had seen the one about the location, but the other link didn’t even show the video. Thanks anyway!

I thought it could be fixed by modifying the Kees1958 “most-used EU+US ads & tracking networks” filter itself. I figured others might be running into the same problem and might not know how to use Dynamic DNR filtering.

@skiper

Great (y). so what did you change using Dynamic DNR filtering?. I van add exclusions in Kees1958 or wven dump the rule causing the problem.

When you get the hang of it uBlock Stripped allows you to strip websites ompletely (also have a look at Privacy Inspector)

Question:

I found out that uBlock Stripped (but probably also uBO-lite or AG-Mv3) get a higher Speedometer benchmark, when disabling (using Brave://flags) Brave's build-in filters, cosmetinc/procedural and CSP filtering with uBlock Stripped compared to AdShields extra with Brave Shields or even with Brave Shields alone o_O

This sort of defeats the purpose of offering a AdShield Extra (for Brave) or Power Tools for Adblockers (on Firefox). @Sampei.Nihira PM-ed me he had the same experience with Forefox and uBO compared to FF with build-in adblocker. It is not much (on my Laptop around 1% performance drop using build-in adblocker, but I am seriously thinking about pulling the plug out of AdSHield Extra and Power Tools for Adblocker on FF (because review is taking ages).

I realize speed testing is useful for testing and optimization but speed is not a priority for me. I've locked down UG Chromium and use MB Browser Guard for security. My testing with different configurations shows fairly minor differences that aren't obvious in daily use.

@LinuxFan58 - Just for kicks I did some testing in UG Chromium and µBlock Stripped slightly out-performed UBOL alongside Malwarebytes Browser Guard. Note that this was with my setups in both the browser and extension.
Thanks. Must be the nearly 800 regexfilter rules with redirects uBO-lite applies to implement the (in DNR Mv3) unavailable $popup/popunder feature, which in all honesty uBS does not support (but when I manually inspected AG_Base it only had a three $popup/popunder in its filters targetting the top 1 million most visted websites).

At the moment further restricting some AG scriptlets (trying to implement them without the lower security trade off), next version will have no functional improvements only trying to solve the low risk security observations of the security audit done on uBs (code used from uBO and AG had no high priority issues, only had some medium observations which all already solved, now trying to solve the low priority issues also: 1 inherited from uBOL and 2 from AG).

It is 2.30 at night in the Netherlands, 😴 tackle the last AG-scriptlet issue tomorrow.

Pushed Version 9.5.9 to Chrome Webstore.

Technical changes (resolving low risk issues of security audit done by third-party),
Limited more scriptlet input strings and added guards to uBO/AdGuard scriptlets
(@Sampei.Nihira won´t use uBS anyway, he likes to punch holes in his browser security by using uBO scriptlets :p ;))

Bug fixes (reported by @skiper (y))
- set to default did not set all settings to defaults again
- disabling Kees1958 incorrectly disabled AG-scriptlets
I could not solve the issue on the website you posted, but while searching for a cause I found this error (also the reason the BBC video lines are added below)

Functional change
Added a special $saferegions parameter in my bad-filter/quick fixes to bypass safe regions check for a specific websites.

Yes, I confirm that.
Built-in ad blockers may be convenient, but they're less effective than some ad-blocking extensions.

P.S.

DS for Firefox would definitely pique my interest.
And not just mine, considering what @Andy Ful wrote here:

"Block At First Sight" is a Microsoft Defender feature integrated with Chrome-based web browsers.

;)

Serious Discussion - Did Microsoft Defender change the way it responds to file downloads?

Yesterday uBS was gone from the CWS all of sudden, no idea why, so I submitted 9.6.2 (because I was working on 9.6.1) which is now in CWS but in fact is version 9.5.9

I looked in my e-mail, but received nothing to explain why uBS was not on the CWS for some time yesterday. When I look in developers panel all data is set to zero for yesterday, so really having no clue.
