Still having problems here. Starting with the 4.0 betas each time the computer first boots it takes a snapshot then saves it, then the intro comes up to ask mode preference , works fine after that until I shut the computer down or restart it, it hangs for up to 5 seconds and then the screen elevates to ( this program is not allowing windows to shut down properly) the place where it's supposed to show what program is causing the problem is blank but it only does it when VS is installed.

VS 4.04b boots up without the snapshot and mode preference but still hangs at shutdow .

Windows 7 HP 64 Bit
Crystal Security
SysRestore = snapshot software
I had this issue when I was running Ccleaner, it was deleting info that triggered this, then after a reboot VS thinks it needs to rinse and repeat and takes the Snapshot again, back when I removed CCleaner when they first sold, my issue went away. Whatever cleaner you are using even if not Ccleaner may be deleting your snapshots.
**Just a (fyi) I settled on Privacy Eraser as my Ccleaner alternative and this went away (y)

Appreciate this software and know you'll get it right.
Thank you for letting me know... This should have all been fixed a few weeks ago.

Have you tried to uninstall VS, then reboot the computer, the make sure all of the files are removed from the c:\ProgramData\VoodooShield folder? If that does not work, then it is certainly some other software interfering with VS, like CG suggested.

Honestly, it sound like your .db files just need to be deleted... the database structure changed significantly from 4.00 to 4.08, and if the structure does not match, ALL kinds of odd errors can occur. I could have patched it with each version, but then you have a big mess on your hands after the beta is over.

I really cannot stress this enough... if someone is having odd issues, they really need to make sure that they delete all of the .db files from the c:\ProgramData\VoodooShield folder. If you continue to have problems after performing the above steps, please send me your DeveloperLog.log. Thank you!

Thanks for the reminder.
I install over the top lately to test VS as some user do not have any issue in this way. But I hardly have any software on my machine hence little chances of conflicts.
Have a good time at the park Dan.:barefoot:

Currently I'm using Toolwiz Care so if I uninstall it will that correct the problem. Or should I take the computer back to before I installed VS.

Thanks for the tip CyberGhosT
Just try removing the tool and reboot and add the info, and reboot again and test the theory. For me it 100% was Ccleaner
so I suspect one of the tools your using to be the culprit. If this tool also triggers this then it would be handy for Dan to know.

Thanks for the fast response Dan.

About a year ago I reinstalled this operating system and then activated it then I immediately backed it up with windows built in backup software. Now I can reinstall it and be up and running in about 20 min. I've done this twice in the last month just to make sure I start fresh while testing your program and others. I then use snapshot software to start clean between OS installs. If there's a better way to handle this let me know.

Here are the logs if I can pull this off.

Oops, I recently found and fixed a bug that was probably causing some issues all along, so I wanted to release a new version that fixes this.

Do you guys remember when I was talking about adding the parent process check to VS? I added this check, but did forgot that before VS adds something to the whitelist, it checks to see if the item is in the whitelist or not… but the parent process check was not added to this check. So some items were not added to the whitelist, because VS already whitelisted that item with a different parent process.

Anyway, it is fixed now, sorry about that. FYI, VS does process name, process path, SHA-256 hash and parent process path comparison to check to see if the file is whitelisted or not. I would also add file size, but it can take a while to calculate file sizes for big files, and there are occasions when the file sizes do not match.

Thank you guys, have a great weekend!
Clean install.
This version fixed my problem with HP printer.
Now VS learned also the command line for faxing. The previous version was only able to learn the command line for printing.
Thanks for fix!

With latest beta, two of my programs were unable to start up, they were silently blocked.
I could only get them to work by exiting VS, launching the programs, starting VS, and taking a snapshot.
The problem programs were:
AIMP (music player)
WinSCP (FTP client)
VS never had an issue with these programs before.
They are installed in default program folder location.

So what you are saying is that if you double click a non-whitelisted item to launch it, VS will block it and provide all of the file insight correctly, right? Then right after that, you drag and drop the file to VS, and you get the message you posted?

I get the connection error when I double click on a non whit listed file and I get the same error if I drag and drop a file to the shield. I never provides insite correctly either way. I looked at the log and the only exception I see are from back in Sept and those were snapshot errors. Anything else in the log I should look at. I did see some communication driver connect and dissconnect logging. It must be my computer since bobody else is seeing it.
I did mention I am using the latest insider build. Not sure if that would matter or not. Dan if you don't think it is a bug, please don't even worry about it.

Oh it matters, those are MS beta drivers were talking about after all. lol :p

True and it does seem to have happened around the same time as the update. All I know is no new software was installed on my host machine other then the insider update. Thry reslly should not be beta drivers this late in the game but who knows. hen an insider build comes out, I always se all the info on bottom right of screen but with this build nothing listed. Currently running build 16299.

I rolled the system back to before I installed Toolwiz Care, did a full shutdown then restart. Installed VS 4.08b and followed it's lead. Once the system settled down to idle I restarted it, no change, still snapshot, save, intro and hanging at shutdown. I have noticed one thing, the VS tray icon disappears instantly when I shutdown along with the shield icon on the desktop but the desktop shield icon reappears and stays their along with all other tray icons until the window goes to shutdown screen. I tried the suggestions shmu26 offered, putting VS in training mode at shutdown but it didn't work, thanks though shmu26.

Thanks for your help.

still hangs at shutdown.

Yes, I still get the "Program Manager This app is preventing shutdown" message, though not consistently, and a snappy shutdown only if VS is exited before shutting down. That's the only thing. What I've tried: exclusions in HMP Alert (forget it), and Windows Defender w/ATP, no difference. It's been minor after 4.04 beta but if you're a perfectionist, uh....well? The release has no such issues, right? None, it's perfect. But I'll hang with this one for a bit and see.

Thanks Dan for the latest update 4.08. All seems to be running ok and programs from other partitions are being remembered.

I have found that VS is being very aggressive on some programs rating them at 97 which were never so on 3.59. I did a clean install in case that was the issue. The programs are:-
Explorer2
FastStone Capture
COED11 which is the Oxford English Dictionary.
There are probably others.

They are ok once cleared but just wondered why.

I just installed 4.08 over 3.59: every time I start my pc VS takes a (very quick) snapshot, then it saves settings and then it asks me in what mode I want to use it (AutoPilot or Application Whitelisting). Win 10, 64

Just tried a clean install of V4.08b on my Win7 32bit laptop and it fails to install. Only other security software running is Comodo Firewall V10. Did not have this problem with V3.59. Have emailed Dan with a copy of the Dev log.

Anyone else having problems installing V4.08b?

Update: I have re-installed V3.59 with no issues. Tried over the top install of V4.08b and installation failed as before with the clean install. Comodo firewall was disabled during installations.
