Very true, show-Zi, in fact they ARE life support devices. It was 98/36 degrees here recently, with a "real feel" of 110/43 degrees. Even with fans, it would be intolerable. Many ambulances racing to and fro. Also, in my area, there is serious talk now of permanently canceling a lot of traditional outdoor events like endurance races during the summer because of the increasing number of high heat/humidity days. Climate change is a tangible reality. And the power provider Con Edison is greedily reaping the benefits and fumbling around whenever there is sustained heat and humidity.
