Why Ungoogled Chromium and not Helium, given that Helium is essentially Ungoogled Chromium with additional features?

How are you going on with Opera, I haven't used it for some time, what's your likes & dislikes please ??
From a productivity perspective, I really like how Vivaldi works, but I often run into some issues with it. Since the Vivaldi team previously worked on Opera, I decided to give Opera a try, hoping it might share some of those features. Surprisingly, there are quite a few similarities.

One feature I particularly like is the "Tab Island," which automatically organizes my tabs. This is especially useful if you tend to open many tabs from similar websites at the same time—otherwise, it might not be necessary. I also appreciate the ability to copy a page link directly from the context menu. Opera’s bookmark system feels more familiar and straightforward compared to Vivaldi’s, which I find a bit unusual. It also supports uBlock Origin and is lightweight on system resources.

So far, I haven’t encountered any major issues, but I do find that its built-in ad blocker is as weak as Vivaldi’s. Although Opera offers more filter options to experiment with, I haven’t changed the default settings yet.

@Sorrento

As a follow-up to my previous post about the Opera browser, after using it heavily for a couple of days and from a privacy perspective, I noticed that it creates many connections in the background that I'm not sure what they do. For example, there is a connection to opera.ai, which I can understand, but there are connections to something related to merchandise that continue to establish in the background, which is not clear to me. There is also a sync connection even though I don't have sync enabled or even have an Opera account. It became the app with the highest number of connections in my NextDNS analytics this month, in just two days. It even beat Microsoft's own connections for the entire month.

It also has a hidden crypto wallet in the settings and recommends websites based on your location, even though I disabled all privacy settings and features, but it still works.

I wanted to tell you this because I think you prefer privacy over features, so, in terms of privacy, my rating would be a solid S* tier.

*PS: S for Shady, not for Super. 😄

Disk writes compared to Brave?

I've seen disc writes mentioned a lot of times here on the forum, and in the past have asked in a couple of different ways in Google searches and Gemini, and they always seem to have this type of reply. Am I missing, are they missing the boat on this one? Unless someone's using a platter drive?
  • The Cache Myth: While heavy browser use creates lots of small, frequent writes, real-world endurance tests show that consumer SSDs routinely outlast their official ratings. You would need to write hundreds of gigabytes per day, every single day for over a decade, just to approach the wear limit from normal software tasks. [1, 2, 3]
  • Real Threats: An SSD is far more likely to fail early due to a sudden controller failure, physical damage, or extreme enterprise-level loads (like heavy database servers or continuous video surveillance writing) rather than running a web browser.

Opera is originally a Norwegian company headquartered in Oslo. Although a Chinese company, Kunlun Tech, is currently the largest investor, Opera remains fundamentally Norwegian in its operations and development.

Unfortunately it is blocked in my country.
Opera has been blocked here since 2016 as well, but I recently noticed that I can access the website again—maybe it’s an error or something temporary. You can probably download it from Softpedia and use their VPN when you need to update. However, I don’t think you’re missing much without it, since everything available in Opera is also accessible through other browsers, including shady stuff. 😆
