Is your opinion based on performance or protection?
It’s based on protection, performance and user experience.
I used to be like that, Emsisoft was my go to product, but when they discontinued loyalty discounts I looked elsewhere, IMO WD with Configure Defender will provide as good as protection as any paid product out there with zero bloat.
Protection with Configure Defender is good, but I just don’t like the product architecture and don’t want it up and running on any of my devices. If they re-write it, I might give it a chance.

But all it does is turn on existing W10 protection, settings in the OS that few know how to access. There are 3 settings, just pick one. Its already running on your device in the form of WD ,whether you have it off or on its still there, may as well use it, no?
The antivirus and IPS services stop running when you install a third party AV. It’s only the WDSC that remains active so you can manage other features.
This centre has evolved a lot, just like WD, but their sluggish and ineffective engine is still there. Don’t get me wrong, WD is a better option than Avast/AVG, Qihoo and many others.

I personally wouldn’t stick to Defender and that’s because of my curious nature, I just need to install them all and I need to know every component, operation and function of theirs...
It needs to be complicated software to get my attention, Defender is just too simple for me, as I’ve got nothing to learn there and nothing to challenge me.
Once I’ve studied every corner of TM, I will move on to something else most likely. If you’ve read my Norton BASH thread, that’s the minimum knowledge that I want to gain, before I consider my job done.
I recommend Defender to novice users though.

Hmm. It seems that you do not like the free and pretty good meal, because it does not look as good as the meal in the restaurant and there is no smiling waiter.:)
Of course, there can be many good reasons for choosing another AV. But, there are also many reasons for not choosing 3rd party AVs on Windows 10.(y)
What might seem reasonable to you, also can seem irrational to others. We should tolerate personal choices. So, I fully accept your choice. :) (y)

I understand your curiosities, it is the fruit of intelligent youth, but do not say that you will never use it, WD is making great progress, although I do not use it now if I have tried it, and I will continue testing it.:)

The MS Enterprise solution is one of the best in the year 2020:

So, there is a chance that WD free will improve too.

I had to re-configure ConfigureDefender CPU load and restart, then I forgot to scan :oops:so I'm starting now.

Edit: Lowering the limit to 30% has quieted scanning down considerably. Now @ ~ 10 - 20+%. (y)
This WD feature never worked on my computer. I tested it many times and configured via Gpedit, PowerShell and ConfigureDefender.

That option is not a hard limit, is a guideline for average usage, meaning CPU usage can go beyond your set value.

In fact, by default is set to 50, and WD still uses 100% of the CPU during scanning.
Not on my computer. There is no difference for any setting (tested many times). The quick scan always varies around 15%. The full scan is for a minute or two around 15% and next jumps to 100%.
But it is good to know that it works for others. I have an old AMD A-10 5700 APU processor.

The only reason to use WD on W10 is because:
1. it is free; and
2. it provides for the least amount of troubles for the typical Windows user

Anyone who is really paranoid about security would not use WD. Test after test has proven it is going to fail against novel sophisticated threats. OK, AV Test, VB Bulletin, AV Comparatives and whatever other AV lab tests y'all quote here are not any kind of meaningful endorsement of WD protection. Those are just commonly accepted base lines.

Microsoft is not third party friendly. Heck it isn't even Windows user friendly. If it was then y'all would not need Hard Configurator. Actually, you don't really need Hard Configurator. It is just your emotions telling you that you do.

This seems to be at odds with your earlier statement. Does this mean that anybody who is really paranoid doesn’t need to be? Their emotions just tell them they do? So they don’t need that third party software?
