Microsoft Apps can be interesting for people on Windows 11 with enabled Smart App Control (SAC).
The SAC protection can block/impair the functionality of many digitally signed applications, because many developers use some unsigned libraries (especially open-source).
Currently, the apps from Microsoft Store can be also normal desktop applications like Adobe Reader DC, Adobe Photoshop Express, CCleaner, Gimp, Foxit Pdf Reader, VLC, WhatsApp, WPS Office 2022, etc. One can even install Avast free or AVG antivirus. Applications distributed via Microsoft Store are properly signed (including DLLs), so they should work well with SAC.
There are also UWP versions of popular applications like Bandizip, Firefox, IrfanView, Opera, Python (3.7 - 3.11), Rufus, Spotify, Tidal, etc.
One can search for other popular Microsoft Store Applications on the web, for example:

HEVC video extension.
Although it is treated as a small fee, it seems that you can install it for free depending on where you get it from Microsoft.
Because of this obscure aspect, I don't get much software from the store other than what's included from the start.
