Geek uninstall or Uninstall Tool for me:cool:

No program is able to remove all leftovers... :(

As @Spawn says you can use one of those software's(FlashBack for me), then another option is using Sandboxie.

Forgot to mention that the best way to clean traces is using the tracking method of either those software's(Revo, Soft-org, Uninstall tool, etc...), one thing you should not use it on is a Backup/Image solution as it can also corrupt the images once you decided to uninstall such backup software.

I was exactly looking for a thread like this

Since I discovered revo and iobit I use them instead of Windows built in. Because I think Windows built in leaves leftovers .

Revo free is available only for 32 bit app, so I use iobit for 64.

But I still don't know what's best for AV : their own uninstaller or revo? ( I mean to not leave leftovers but to not remove registry keys that would make Windows unstable )

can tell you that if you use Norton uninstall tool, it will not remove task scheduler task created by Norton Security for example.

Recently the free version of Revo was updated, and it now has 64 bit support, although I still prefer IObit.

I presume you mean using the uninstall tools provided by some av vendors. These will work better than Revo, as they should be able to remove every single file and registry key used by the antivirus. Revo may miss some files or registry keys.

If there is no specific uninstall/removal tool, then I think IObit Uninstaller is the best option as it can scan for leftovers after a reboot, whereas with Revo after rebooting can not do that.

Norton is the only AV I used ( more than a year ago then just defender ) and its uninstall tool left something . Revo has and advanced option

The removal tool I always talked about the removal tool. But a year ago, or more .maybe now it 's different
You could always use IObit Uninstaller to install it and scan for leftovers, and then run the Norton Removal Tool afterwards.

A little off subject but I recall using an uninstaller called CleanSweep or Clean Sweep. Any one remember it? Google leads me to places that are not this product.

Probably goes back to Win 95.

Yes, I used it. It was published by Quartedeck and later aquired by Symantec, and it then became Norton CleanSweep.

However, I preferred CyberMedia Uninstaller. Which went on to become McAfee Uninstaller.

Here's McAfee Uninstaller running on Windows 10.

Exactly right

Many thanks.

Another old timer, eh? It was a Quarterdeck product when I used it.

Really appreciated.

No love for Comodo Programs Manager :(. I guess I am the only one so far. I use v 1.2, which does not install Geek Buddy or any other add ons. However, lol it also contains a process called CPMPopulateDBTool.exe which runs for long periods at very high processor. This process does nothing since Comodo did away with the feature which was supposed to make it possible to uninstall/reinstall programs through Comodo's servers. Now the process searches in vain for a connection that doesn't exist. Luckily for me, I can easily block the process from running with another app that I happen to run anyway called Process Lasso.

CPM seems to me to be the most refined of the uninstallers I have tried. Those are Revo Pro, which I admit is good, especially now that 64 bit is supported, Advanced Uninstaller Pro (not so good), Wise Uninstaller (not so good), and ZSoft uninstaller, which is not very good but at least makes a log that could be useful. All these but CPM and Revo have pretty serious quirks. Even Revo can be dangerous.

I love that CPM removes traces but prompts about shared files. Also, CPM offers a backup to backup the registry and removes unremovable items during boot. I feel like it's Comodo's best program to date for my purposes so far.

Suggestion for anyone thinking of trying CPM. Download the 1.4 installer if you have Windows 10. I believe Comodo may have removed all the bundled items such as Geek Buddy for W10. W10 doesn't allow multiple programs to be installed in one installer or so I have heard. If not, then download the 1.4 version and use WinRAR to extract the installer into its components. Then just install CPM only. W10 should accept this. I know this works with Comodo Firewall, because I have installed CF this way to avoid bundled programs.
