Avast is the most well-known antivirus company in the world among Windows users.
Bought by Norton in 2022, Avast has released a version called One which gathers all the security functions: Antivirus, Firewall, VPN etc.
Let's see if Avast is still in shape!



Interface: 9/10
Avast's interface is still very clear to use, and suitable for novices.
A large choice of settings is available, but I find that the antivirus is well set by default.
But, Avast encourages a lot to switch to its paid version, which can put off some users.

Protection:10/10 Web / Fake crack 1/1 Remains 20 threats on 539 malware / PC clean
I knew that Avast had improved but this one shocked me!
Avast is clearly one of the best free antivirus of the moment!
It has an excellent virus database and its Machine Learning AI has evolved well.
Let's also salute the attempt to install LokiBot which was interrupted by the Avast IDS.
Congratulations!
In the end, there are just 2 DLLs left from QBot that had been blocked by Avast.

After watching your test (thanks @Shadowra ), I decided to move from Avast AV Free to Avast One Free on my wife's laptop.

Over the top install went fine, with following remarks:

1. I had free firewall module installed, but that firewall was disabled (needed to enable again)
2. Settings of basic shields were remembered, the network inspector had forgotten its settings
3. Avast One has a very limited free (5MB) VPN offer and the VPN now seems to be an integral part (have not figured out how to uninstall it).
4. Free firewall of ONE seems to have less functionality as the 'older' Free AV version, same with network inspector
5. Startup of MsEdge felt a little slower

EDIT: for fun I did a over the top install of Avast Free over Avast One and got back the old Avast Free with all my settings saved (with extra "strict" option in both ransomware protection and firewall and the "monitor network" option in network inspector) and yes startup of Edge felt a little faster again ???

Another day. Another very well thought out and executed test. I have never been a fan or user of AVAST but tests show it's very good at protection.

As far as I know BD Free is the only one which really is silent. Avast One did bombard me less than Avast Free. The Advantage of Avast Free is that it is tested by AV-Test, AV-Comparatives and AVlab, so besides doing well in Shadowra's test it also does well in lab-tests. When you add AndyFul's SimpleWindowsHardening Avast also performs much better against scripted and lolbins attacks (simply because scripts don't run in user folders).

Edit: forgot to mention Avast One does not has a mail shield.

I knew the folk at AVAST when they were still independent, and they impressed by really being dedicated to their work. I'm glad to see the product hasn't deteriorated since being incorporated into Gen Digital along with Norton AVG, CCleaner, and Avira.

(Also I prefer Prague to Tempe, but maybe that's just me...)

How is the pc performance, it looks like it ranked 2d (lightness) AV-C Oct2022, but the few times I've tried it it "felt heavy" at the keyboard. What do you think?

The virtual machine is equipped with 8GB of DDR5 RAM (on my 32GB DDR5), 8 cores (I have a Ryzen 7 7700X), a 1Gbps fiber connection on my 2Gbps and 60Gb in SSD MVNE

Apparently they’ve kept the Brno office as well, they are not just in Prague. Avast is really spoiling their employees and promoting productivity, the headquarters have everything one can wish for, including gym, tennis court and many others. It used to be displayed on their website years ago, not sure if it still is.

Avast also has many patents on tools that help malware analysts, for example recently they received a patent that allows security specialists to write behavioural blocking classifiers in plain English (by looking at Justia one can easily find this patent).

They’ve been taking many sensible decisions throughout the years and by looking at the product it can easily be noticed.

yes, I see your bandwidth posts I give VM 16gb RAM on my 96 gig 6 core slightly aged box. I will try Avast again. Thanks for all your tests!!

Avast does not require you to create an account. You can use their products without Avast account. This is a big PLUS. Plus the option for custom/minimal installation.
