and the option is there:

USER ALERT: Watch out if/when you change your default search provider. MS may change it back to Bing and then "warn" you that "you might have inadvertently changed your search provider". Don't say you haven't been warned. You heard it here first!

On my main PC which I use group policy, there's no pop ups; but on my VM which I use the default settings except for Google search provider, I was recommended to use Bing for "better" experience

Features are sometimes rolled out independent of the browser version, I think that's what @oldschool meant.

They do controlled rollouts of features, just like Windows update. Some users get them, others don't - until the feature is rolled out to the broader user base.

Yesterday on my Windows 11 laptop I noticed the Copilot was back enabled on my task bar, even though I had turned it off in settings. I checked the updates and sure enough there had been two updates done right before that. MS is sneaky like that. I don't even know what the updates were for. I do know it sure gets old playing Whack A Mole with MS features and updates.

Don't know if you can. It's part of Chromium/Chrome. I'll have to investigate later when I have time.

Edit: You may disable it in Brave.
