Panda Dome is a Spanish-based antivirus, acquired by WatchGuard a few years ago.
There are few changes in this 2025 version, but Panda is banking on artificial intelligence.
Let's check it out!
Interface :
The interface is unchanged but modern.
Panda offers a few settings, but remains easy to use, especially for computer novices.
On installation, Panda suggests Opera, but I refuse.
Panda doesn't offer Web protection either, so the URL test will be carried out with the interceptor.
Web protection: 7/7
Apart from 3 dead URLs, Panda blocks all infected downloads on launch.
Fake crack : 1/1
Panda blocks executions. RunDLL32 tries to launch but crashes, blocked by Panda..
Malware Pack : Remaining 45 files out of 132.
While it did well in the first test phase, the pack was a cold shower...
Panda struggles to block attacks from scripts and other installations.
It will try to defend itself by blocking a few payloads, but this remains completely inadequate. Panda is totally lacking in the pro-active and behavioral protection needed to defend itself properly.
At the end, a self-replicating worm launches (Unicorn) and saturates the memory, forcing me to reboot and stop the test.
Final scan :
Panda: 0
NPE : 8
KVRT : 27 - Infection Memory
Final opinion:
Panda unfortunately retains its bad reputation, despite some good ideas.
I must admit I'm a little disappointed, as I saw some positive things at the start, but Panda plays the wrong cards and is totally lacking in behavioral protection to protect effectively.
The recipe hasn't changed, and I still don't recommend Panda Free.
