RE: biozfear's main laptop config (updated 17/11/11)

Easeus is the easiest to use. Extremely user friendly. Paragon is more techie and Macrium does have differential or incremental backups. It only does full backups.

Cool thanks a lot Maximus. I have now downloaded Easeus. Will try it out sometime today hopefully. Won't bother updating the config as yet.

RE: biozfear's main laptop config (updated 28/11/11)

After an infection from an Old backup, did a clean install and replaced some paid applications with free ones. Prior to make a back up I have scanned with Malwarebytes (which was what detected the infection and system was clean). Backup done with Paragon prior to have all tools installed and a second back up with all tools installed after another scan with Malwarebytes.

Applications removed:
*Ghostery;
*WOT;
*EaseUS Todo Backup Free 3.5;
*Perfect Disk;
*EMET.

Applications added:
*Paragon Backup & Recovery 2011 Free;
*Puran Defrag.

Tell me how Linux Mint goes because I'm interested in testing a new Linux based OS.

on Linux Mint 12, Matte is nice but I am sort of used to lightweight and that's where LXDE version of Mint 11 comes in.

However there are improvements on version 12.

One thing I hate is despite selecting not to download anything while installing, it will download stuff.

Tho same trends on Kubuntu and Lubuntu.

After some time of Inactivity, finally posted the stable config I have been running since December 2011.
Removed some stuff because I don't see the need to.

Swapped ESET for Avast with sandbox and the website checker disabled. Also replaced LibreOffice with MS Office 2010.

Ever since I swapped Avast of Eset, noticed some improvements on speed but when I tested Avast's removal capabilities I was a disappointed.

Perhaps I should activate my VIPRE license and stick to it for one year.

Any suggestions?

VIPRE would be a good option to pick. Since you have a license for it so it is worth to use it.

ill load it up on vmware the trial and do some tests and see hows the resources and stuff.

When 2012 came out I remember the surfing was a bit slow.

On the VIPRE topic, any recommendations for tweaking the settings?

I hardly use FF. Chrome is mainly used so no need to switch to WF.

Got a 1 year license of ESET SS as a gift so I have went ESET route instead of GFI for now.
One thing I don't like on SS is the fact that you can't enable Gaming Mode and have the blue/green icon... Instead you get a yellow one.

Purely cosmetic I know, but I'm a minimalistic user. :)

Anyone has tried the Beta yet?

No I haven't tried it yet. Would some one like to test this for us and give us a result?

I noticed that too, when using some applications it would switch between what I assume Gaming mode, and the icon the system tray would keep changing colours.

I've not tried the Beta, but I'm tempted too. Actually I may as well test it, since I made my first system image a few days ago.
