In this video, This is the final round of the Eset vs. Microsoft Defender comparison.
The aim is to see how effective they are, and rank them from worst to best.

Please note:

- The antiviruses are already ranked in the video, I've taken into account Web blocking, the reaction to an attack, my malware pack and how the antivirus will defend itself.
- Please remain courteous and respect my ranking, as the antivirus software is already ranked during assembly.
- This is the final. If your antivirus doesn't win the cup, you can be sure it didn't lose out. Please read my reviews below.
- There will be no further episodes.

Microsoft Defender, the antivirus that qualifies as a free AV product, is going head-to-head with its pay-as-you-go competitor.
It is still very easy to use.

Web: 15/15 => All links blocked
Crack: 1/1 => Blocked

Pack: remaining 10 out of 112.
Microsoft Defender provides excellent protection. During launch, it blocks several attacks (including 1 from RacoonStealer) but will let through a VBS that installs NetSupport, which connects to its server.
Despite this misstep, Microsoft Defender remains an excellent antivirus if you want a free antivirus.

SOS :

MS Defender : 0
NPE: 1
KVRT: 3

ESET, the antivirus loved by the gaming world and qualified as a paid AV, is going head-to-head with Microsoft Defender, its free competitor.
During configuration, I activate the detection of suspicious objects.

Web: 15/15 => All links blocked.
Crack: 1/1 => Blocked
Pack: remains 9 out of 112.

ESET has swept the pack clean!
The remaining files don't work, so I suspect that ESET has cleaned them up or that they are corrupted.
Totally clean system.

ESET wins this big comparison!
But Microsoft Defender is still an excellent antivirus if you want a free solution!

( now we can sleep :D ^^ )

Great review! It's interesting to see how closely Microsoft Defender competes with a paid solution like ESET. Both seem to offer excellent protection. Thanks for sharing this comparison, and congrats to ESET for winning the final round!

Another great test and the results look good for both! I think ESET has taken over Kaspersky as the best consumer AV.

ESET as main AV, MD as back up with periodic scans. Seems like a winner. Add one of Andy Ful's tools or one of Dan's and your pretty sweet.

ESET has really stepped up their game. The recent integration of Intel Threat Detection Technology also seems commendable. Happily, Smart Security Premium is still purring along on my devices. MS Defender users should be plenty pleased, too.

Nice work. I'm sure it was quite an involved process leading up to this finale.

Been using hitman pro alert (disabled cryptoguard) , Symantec (firewall,IPS only ), comodo ,ESET as well as quad9 as the DNS provider
And on the browser I got the following extensions Microsoft defender, Symantec, checkpoint (with threat emulation set to 100MB ), trafficlight
Oh and actually performance of the system does feel snappy to me on on that i3 laptop 8gb of ram

So nice that the main av on the system gets good results as the reason I have chosen ESET is that it felt light enough on that system and because it's light I have been slowly adding layers to it

Thank you so much @Shadowra for all the precious time you invested in sharing those reviews with us, highly appreciated!
Great to see that M$ Defender has grown strong over time, and even default config will most likely prevent damage from systems not actively monitored by their users, I think even M$ updates arrive and install automatically now?
Of course, there is never 100% safety, and I'd bet if you come across some 0day, or something not known by signatures yet, M$ Defender will struggle?
However, having tested many AVs in the past, there isn't any AV being bulletproof, if you try hard enough.
I think combining any widely known and reputated AV w/ safe browsing habits, with Adblocker + Bitdefender TrafficLight (or else), and double-checking .exe on VT before opening (of course, only using trusted downloads), you should be quite fine as regular user.
In corporate environment, you might be higher class target, however I think it's more a user fault (social engineering) in many cases than a AV defect.

Thanks @Shadowra for another amazing test and fantastic effort! Glad to see MD not far behind Eset and good going for a free product. I'd considered Eset myself this year but other expenses got in the way. Anyway, very grateful for these fantastic tests :D
There is no need to purchase av software when there are so many good ones including built in wich aren't far from the top
I wonder how much windows defender will improve under the next years and improvements they are planning for windows 12 security by default
