All 4 layers are covered:
  • Realtime & other: Windows Defender (with tweaks)
  • Web Browser: Netcraft, uBo
  • Backup: Dropbox/Onedrive
  • Firewall: Native
My advice:
  • Consider adding Scriptsafe to browser
  • Add Syshardener, this also can add basic block rules for Windows Firewall as well
  • Consider using Tinywall or Malwarebytes Firewall Control for a better comprehensive protection of the built-in firewall
Thanks for sharing.

Do you know of a good alternative to scriptsafe? I had a technical issue. I don't care so much about privacy issues, like who's tracking me and stuff like that. I am more interested in pure security stuff.
The simplest solution, although not the most convenient, is to disable javascript by default in Chrome, and whitelist certain sites, and also bookmark that settings page so you can easily toggle it on and off.

What was the technical issue surrounding?

~LDogg
It's blocked for me.
You see, I have content filtering at the ISP level. They can only provide their filtering service if they block users from using certain proxy tricks that bypass their server.
Apparently, there are word combos on the web page that sound like proxy tricks.

That's very strange I even have filtering at isp level too.

The other alternative is ScriptDefender.

Thanks.
You probably have different kind of filtering. You use VPN, right? My ISP blocks VPN, if you use their filtering service for your router, rather than for individual device.

My isp has filters for malicious content, torrents and other.

Hope the other one is alright.

Mine is mainly for immodest content -- porn, nudity, etc.

Makes sense, still strange that ScriptSafe has been blocked.

~LDogg
Yes, strange. Usually they let me request it to be opened, but this time, no. I think their algorithm smelled a proxy somewhere.

@shmu26
You may be interested to try dynamic filtering (Medium Mode) by uBlock Origin as alternative to ScriptSafe
Thanks. I will check it out. In the end, I couldn't bring myself to install scriptsafe. Small user base. Has access to all my data. Who knows what will be with them in a year or two? I could lose more than I gain.

Not a wise method to do this and mix scripts and ads. Better use both umatrix and ublock which are from the same developer and you can easily disable script filtering for some reason and still have your ad filtering.

If I remember correctly it blocks 3rd party everything by default but check as I haven't had to use the default since forever (save settings on the cloud).
