Well, personally, I switched to uBlock Lite today because using uBlock Origin in Brave is only a temporary solution, and the new AdGuard gave me a warning on a lot of websites that it could not work on that website. So, hence the switch to uBlock Lite in Brave.

Now I will keep using uBlock Origin in Firefox for as long as possible. :)
You don't need ad-blocking extensions in Brave. It already comes with ad-blocking. Simply enable or add filter lists.

EDIT: Also for Jan Willy.

I am aware of it, I just want to give uBlock Lite a fair chance, before I never did. So I will give it a chance for a while, and if I do not like it, I will use Brave Shields. :)

For your information, uBO Lite for Firefox might be unavailable soon, according to comment by developer @gorhill
gorhill commented:

"The Firefox version of uBO Lite will cease to exist, I am dropping support because of the added burden of dealing with AMO nonsensical and hostile review process. However trivial this may look to an outsider, it's a burden I don't want to take on -- since the burden is on me, I make the decision whether I can take it on or not, it's not something up for discussion.

The burden is that even as a self-hosted extension, it fails to pass review at submission time, which leads to having to wait an arbitrary amount of time (time is an important factor when all the filtering rules are packaged into the extension), and once I finally receive a notification that the review cleared, I have to manually download the extension's file, rename it, then upload it to GitHub, then manually patch the update_url to point to the new version. It took 5 days after I submitted version 2024.9.12.1004 to finally be notified that the version was approved for self-hosting. As of writing, version 2024.9.22.986 has still not been approved."

It is expected that Google and others will find ways to bork both uBlock Origin Lite and AdGuard Manifest v3 extensions.

Google never said it will stop finding ways to defeat Manifest v3 advertisement-filtering extensions. It will also never give up its fight against all other browsers (e.g. Chromium, Microsoft Edge, Firefox, plus all the others). Google's internal teams will do everything they can to its websites to undermine usage of any other browser except Chrome.

The only solution is Ad Blocking-in-Depth by using a combination of different advertisement blocking methods (e.g. AdGuard desktop, ip and content filtering lists, etc).

Sooner or later YouTube will get around to blocking VPN and Proxy connections.

The general trend is to block VPN traffic. The blocking is not at the same level of effort as blocking ad-blockers, but the intent is the same - to disallow encrypted tunnel access to web resources.

The industry as a whole can wreck non-enterprise \ govt VPN use if it really wanted to. The only reason that it is not happening is that, unlike the fight against ad-blockers, there is no financial incentive in blocking VPN connections.

Don't worry, it won't.

Why? Because number of people having VPN and using it to access ad-free YouTube is tiny. Also one of the reasons is YouTube doesn't license the content. Streaming platforms license content regionally and they could be sued by the owner if they made content bought for one region available in them all. For the same reason, ISPs switch off channels from other countries when there's sport event going on; neither does TV channel nor the ISP have rights to show that event in the country.
The general trend is to block VPN traffic. The blocking is not at the same level of effort as blocking ad-blockers, but the intent is the same - to disallow encrypted tunnel access to web resources.
There isn't any general trend. Services block VPN traffic if it's used to bypass their policies. YouTube never started blocking or limiting VPNs. The only thing they did is stopped people from using VPNs to get the cheaper premium plan from other countries. It's because of money, why would you pay cheap when you can pay premium more expensive at your location. As I already said, streaming services started blocking VPN because they want to protect themselves from possible lawsuits AND to avoid you getting the subscription for cheap like YouTube.
The industry as a whole can wreck non-enterprise \ govt VPN use if it really wanted to. The only reason that it is not happening is that, unlike the fight against ad-blockers, there is no financial incentive in blocking VPN connections.
Some governments made VPNs illegal, some blocked them. But the hard truth is... VPNs can't really be blocked. There will always be an IP address which isn't blocked. To successfully block VPN service, you need to block all the IP addresses they use and that's really hard to do because one IP address can be used for multiple things, from hosting a web sites, gaming server, being a proxy and VPN server at the same time.

This is why Russia gave up on blocking Telegram after they tried so hard. They blocked thousands of Telegram's IP addressed and not only Telegram was still functional, but they blocked half of the web.

Update:
An add-on reviewer wrote:

After re-reviewing your extension, we have determined that the previous decision was incorrect and based on that determination, we have restored your add-on.

We apologize for the mistake and encourage you to reach out to us in the future whenever you have questions or concerns about a review so that we can correct mistakes and resolve any issues quickly.
But Gorhill is still removing the extension from AMO.

I don't get it... Why would someone use uBO Lite on Firefox if it supports the normal one. It just doesn't make sense.
Another reason, sooner or later Firefox won't support anymore addons based on MV2. I like to be prepared what is the best alternative for me personally.

Not on desktop, but on Android it does makes sense. You don't have the same performance on phones like desktop and battery life matters. MV3 is just more efficient.
That's exactly where I'm using it, Firefox on Android, and it works excellent :)
TIL someone uses Firefox for Android. I'd personally use it if it was at least half good as their desktop version. It's just too resource hungry and lacks of features/settings desktop variant has. Because of this I'm forced to use Brave. 🙄

Firefox subreddit is riddled with questions like this:

Mozilla might (or might not) stop supporting MV2 API some time in the future, so you're now using uBO Lite and worsening your ad block experience to be prepared for the future?

This doesn't make sense because Mozilla doesn't even have a roadmap when will they stop supporting MV2 what tells us it's not their plan for at least the next 5 years. Beside, they could always make an exception for already created verified extensions and limit the unverified and new ones to MV3. Something Google refused to do.

Nope. I rather use (or better said testing) since a few weeks Ghostery recently developed based on MV3 even for Firefox.
But also uBOLite did the job well enough for my browsing habits, of course if you don't need the advanced features of uBlock Origin.
