Earlier today we released a minor update to 1.8.

  • [Linux] The .desktop file has incorrect encoding
  • The about page gives incorrect credit in some languages (VB-26864)
  • Many strings are untranslated in Norwegian, where they should show translations (VB-26940)

Vivaldi Browser snapshot 1.9.818.25 (1.9 RC1)
To help us get 1.9 out the door as soon as possible, please try and focus your feedback on serious regressions since 1.8 stable. If you want to ask about new (post 1.9) features or longstanding issues please do so on our forums.

Note: This build will receive updates from the snapshot autoupdate stream. Even if there are no additional changes, Vivaldi will be rebuilt for the stable autoupdate stream, resulting in another version number change.

It depends if there are still some bugs and regressions discovered that need a quick fix.
There will be probably another RC2 maybe tommorow or at least in this week I guess. I think probably near the end of the week, or begin next week it will become stable, but it can be earlier of course. It won't take too long though because otherwise they are behind in the Chromium release cycle.

Docked Developer Tools
We have had a long standing request for the ability to dock Developer Tools. Well, wait no longer, we are introducing this handy feature in our very first 1.10 snapshot. All of you developers who desperately wanted this, can now breathe a sigh of relief. Of course, if you prefer them undocked, that still works too!

Better thumbnails for Speed Dial folders

We have also started to do a little more work on Speed Dials for 1.10. The first obvious visual change is another long standing request. Instead of all folders appearing with the same icon, they now give you a glimpse at their contents, which makes it that little bit easier to quickly select the correct folder.

Known issues



    • Developer Tools shortcuts are conflicting with Vivaldi ones when docked VB-27893
    • Switching themes inside Developer Tools causes it to crash: Developer Tools theme, not Vivaldi theme VB-27954

Today we release a minor update to 1.9, fixing a number of known issues.
The following improvements were made since the initial 1.9 release:
  • [Regression] Apply accent color to window setting lost on startup – Theme changes now instantly saved (VB-27990)
  • [Regression][IME] “Find in Page” breaks inputting words when hit in page (VB-27286)
  • [Regression][Mac] Non-admin users cannot launch Vivaldi (VB-28028)
  • [Regression][Mac] Certificate error page doesn’t allow links to be clicked (VB-27701)
  • Pages not encoded in UTF-8 cannot be revisited, closed, etc. (VB-27708)
  • Remove Report Diagnostics setting – for more information see Vivaldi Browser privacy policy
  • Updated Chromium to 58.0.3029.97

Other new features and improvements include:
  • Sorting of Downloads in the Side Panel by name, size, date added and date finished, as well as manually.

Today’s minor update to Vivaldi 1.10 resolves some known issues and includes updated translations to the latest stable version of the browser.
