Having used the most recent release of the free CFW for a few weeks a while ago, it seemed clear to my non expert pov that a lot of technical ingenuity went into its development. Too bad the firewall user interface is too cumbersome to quickly and easily create rules - too many mouse clicks and typing required - it does not filter IPv6, and the antivirus module - which I did not use - is reportedly less than stellar. If the developers could improve these areas and other reported bugs, it would be a first-rate product, on par with the home-use products offered by industry heavyweights such as Kaspersky, Eset, Norton and perhaps a few others in the top tier category. The lack of IPv6 filtering was particularly a deal breaker for me which compelled me to restore an image created before the CFW installation.

Comodo should probably just get rid of the HIPS and focus on the other components, especially the firewall, containment and antivirus in order to simplify it and strengthen its anti-malware capabilities.

All my comments are completely unbiased based on my experience using the product quite extensively over several weeks usage.

Good comment.
I always had similar thought, 15 years ago it would have been enough if Comodo had focused on “Firewall + Containment”. Sadly, more than 7 years ago Comodo practically abandoned all its modules completely. Absolutely nothing changed the CEO's lousy decision, thousands of requests were made at Comodo forums, absolutely nothing was ever done to improve or focus Comodo.

And while Comodo was completely abandoned, competitors advanced year after year, new technologies were developed, and today it makes no sense to use Comodo, not even as Containment + Firewall, because there are many other free alternatives, modern, with more resources, constantly tested by labs, with excellent reviews, with updates and upgrades, with permanent maintenance of bugs, always incorporating new features, and better, they work automatically, they are not dumb blockers (as Comodo) that depend on users, the current alternatives in the market are real antivirus/antimalware that automatically identify and handle threats.

Try Portmaster Firewall. It's free and if you have even minimal knowledge, you can set it up to suit you. From what I understand, the default settings are enough.
