New Update Finally... The next generation of Avira is available.

I tried this quickly over the weekend. It feels light but certain things did not. Even opening the program from the taskbar, it had to repaint the screen each time. I am not sure if this is just not optimized for main stream yet or not. Also browsing was slow. I assume this is due to https scanning but it was uber slow. At least on my machine.

Is context scan back?
No, with this new program update not yet, apparently Avira folks don't think it's a problem, no priority for this, their support is kind of lost, it seems they had no idea about this, and all you ask , whatever question, the answer is always the same: Go to the control panel and click on repair program.

Exactly. I think it is not very hard to add context menu scanning back. Don't know why it's taking them so long to solve this problem. Maybe an indication of Avira's poor development capability.

On Wilders it was posted that the right click scan is now back:

Context menu scan (right click scan) option is back again.

Thanks for the update.

Though context menu scanning has been made available, the new Avira still has a lot of bugs (real-time protection automatically turns off after a reboot, detected threats are not moved to the quarantine, etc...)

I feel that the best alternative to Avira is F-Secure.

Behavior Blocker in action?

I'm not sure how well it performs right now, but I'm sure it will improve in the foreseeable future.
