Update After running the extension for a quick test, I visited Newser and opened an article which was filled with ads. I received a pop-up to subscribe and many ads appeared on the side.

When I disabled the extension and switched to my Ad Guard extension, it blocked all the ads and pop-ups. It is important to note that I used the default settings of the extension and I'm not sure if there are other filters I need to turn on.

However, I personally prefer Ad Guard as it provides similar features and can also block ads and pop-ups. Additionally, Ad Guard also allows users to pause the protection for specific sites.
What compelled you to try Ghostery, are you a previous user?

Do you also use AdGuard on default settings?

Indeed, you would have had to manually enable more filters in settings, at least with the funky onboarding page they had when I last used it. Ghostery is pretty good for noobs. Adguard is definitely superior.

:p

It's another good set and forget option, but in this case specific for ads and cookie consent messages. Personal I do have it's settings for the Global blocking set to All. With the mentioned site Newser, I had zero problems getting a perfect clean and zero ad experience, but since that site has some of the worst hidden cookie enforcement I ever seen, personal I already hardcore blocked their url. The vendor list is stupid large with several hundred.

Ghosterys so called " Pause " option I agree could be a bit more granular, as it's three time options ( 30 minutes, 1 hour or 24 hours ) and not for specific sites. But it's no problem to ad/set any specific site for it's normal blocking/unblocking feature.

If I have understood it correct, version 10 is for Safari and version 8 is for Edge, Chrome, Firefox and Opera.
