Dev channel update to 87.0.654.0 is live:
Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 87.0.654.0 to the Dev channel. After last week, it’s back to being a small week for updates this week, but here’s everything we’ve got:

Added features:
  • Rolled out Share, Copy, and Paste Settings more broadly.
  • Extended formatted link copying capabilities to links copied from webpages.
Top Feedback Summary for September 29:
Hey there, Insiders! This week’s update is pretty quiet, but we did want to touch on one item on here we know y’all are really excited about, history sync (and open tabs sync). The team is still working on bringing history sync to the browser, however we are not quite yet ready to share an update at this time. We expect to have more details in the next few weeks, so keep an eye out here for those. For now, we are leaving the status as Planned for Summer.

Your feedback is invaluable to us. We’ve implemented some new features in the past few weeks that we would love to know your thoughts about! You can share your thoughts with us directly through the browser via the menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback (or, if you’re on mobile, by tapping the button and scrolling to Send feedback).

First Look at Microsoft Edge's upcoming Reset Sync feature:
Microsoft's new Chromium-based Edge web browser supports the syncing of user data like most browsers out there. Edge users may enable sync to synchronize personal data such as their Favorites, Settings, passwords, browser extensions, or form data between Edge instances.

Some options like the ability to sync the browsing history or open tabs, are promised but not available yet.

Up until now, Edge users could disable the synchronization from an Edge instance by activating the "Turn off sync" button on edge://settings/profiles/sync. This disabled syncing for that particular instance but left synced data in the cloud untouched.

Microsoft added a new experimental feature to the latest Microsoft Edge Canary version to reset sync in the browser completely. The main difference to turning off sync is that the reset feature will delete sync data in the cloud when it is activated.

The option needs to be enabled in the latest Edge Canary version before it becomes available. Note that there is a possibility that it will never land in Stable, and that Microsoft pulls it so that it is no longer available.

Greetings, Insiders! We have several things moving around this week. In case you missed it last week, we gave a brief update on history (and open tab) sync. As mentioned, we’re keeping it set to Planned for Summer until out next update. As a general reminder, we mark items as Planned for … when we expect features or work done to address the feedback to appear in Canary. We have our status definitions below the feedback items. Let’s jump into our other updates!

We have a couple items getting months added to their Planned status. Bring the tab preview feature from the current version of Microsoft Edge is moving to Planned for November. This week we did disable Chrome’s hover cards, so if you are missing that in this week’s update this would be why. We are also moving Support themes from the Chrome Web Store to Planned for October. Keep an eye out for our next updates on these items!

While we don’t have a time frame to share, we moved Edge should respect the default PDF viewer from Under Review to Planned. Once we have more details about what this change would mean for you, we’ll share them here!

Microsoft Edge now lets you pin web pages to your Windows 10 Start Menu:
One of the features that the users of legacy Edge browser appreciated was the ability to pin web pages to the Windows 10 Start Menu. Microsoft promised to bring the feature to the Chromium Edge as well. True its word, the company has finally added it to Edge Canary version 87.0.662.0.

Users running Edge Canary version 87.0.662.0 or above can now pin any webpage to the Windows 10 Start Menu. To do pin a webpage to the Start Menu, all you need to is visit a website and then right click on the web page. This will bring the context menu, where you will find an option called “More tools,” hovering the mouse over which will display the “Pin to Start” option. Clicking on the option will pin the web page to the Start Menu.

Microsoft is improving the favorites menu in Edge:
Microsoft's Edge browser seems to be consistently getting new features and improvements to existing ones lately, and today another big change is being announced. The Redmond giant has announced a change to the favorites experience in the browser, making it easier for users to see and manage their favorite websites in a pinch.

Currently, the favorites button in the top bar of the Edge window only displays a list of the favorites in the "root" folder, with sub-folders being available in individual dropdowns. This dropdown menu also misses out on any management features, which have to be accessed through the full Favorites page. Now, that's changing, as Microsoft is introducing a new dropdown menu that presents favorites in a tree view, along with the ability to move items around between folders.

What's more, Microsoft is bringing back the ability to pin the favorites list to the side of the browser, so you can still see them while you visit websites. This was a feature in Edge Legacy, and Microsoft says it got a lot of feedback asking for its return, so this should be good news for fans of that capability. If you prefer the full-screen experience for managing favorites, that's still available, and you can access it by clicking the ellipsis button, and then "Manage favorites".

These changes are now available in the Canary and Dev channels, and it might be a while before they make their way to the stable release, but it should still be good to hear changes are on the way. If you can't wait to try it, you can download Edge Insider builds here.

Dev channel update to 87.0.664.8 is live:
Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 87.0.664.8 to the Dev channel. This is the last build for major version 87, so except for maybe a small patch or two, this is the build that will soon be going to Beta. We have one important known issue in this build that’s actually a fix for a previous issue. A couple of weeks ago, people who were expecting their session to be restored, either because they have Edge set to start up with their previous session or they intentionally checked for updates in Settings, lost their sessions. Today, the bug that caused that behavior has been fixed, but the fix causes the exact same behavior. If you’re in that group of people who lost their tabs, there’s a good chance they’re recoverable. Go to … > History, and look for entries in the “Recently closed” section that mention multiple tabs, since they will restore entire windows. Other methods, like the ctrl + shift + T, should also work if done right after Edge is opened.

Canary users should also check to see if they’ve been signed out of the browser. A bug over the last week may have caused that to happen, which will also affect features like sync that rely on being signed into the browser. Now, for everything noteworthy that’s been added this week:

Added features:
  • Changed the Favorites menu to now be a pinnable pane that lists all favorites in a single vertical list instead of multiple flyout menus.
  • Added a price comparison feature to Collections.
  • Added data recovery to PDFs so that edits or annotations aren’t lost in the event of a crash.
  • Improved support for AV1 encoded videos. Note that the Windows extension is still required to be installed from Get AV1 Video Extension - Microsoft Store.
  • Added a keyboard shortcut to open and close Collections.
  • Added a button to the Profile flyout to turn on Sync if it’s not already turned on.
  • Added a setting to control whether or not the button to reveal passwords on webpages is shown, as well as a management policy for Password Reveal Enabled. Note that updates to documentation and administrative templates are still needed.
  • Added a management policy for Kiosk Address Bar Editing Enabled. Note that updates to documentation and administrative templates are still needed.
  • Added a management policy for Web Capture Enabled. Note that updates to documentation and administrative templates are still needed.
  • Merged the News and Office new tab pages for work and school users. Note that the Office-only new tab page can still be set for users via management policy.
  • Rolled out the pre-rendered new tab page more broadly.
  • Deprecated the management policy for New Tab Page Set Feed Type.
Top Feedback Summary for October 15:
Hey, Insiders! As we get ready to move Edge 88 into our Dev channel, this week’s update for your top feedback is pretty light. Let’s jump into what we have!

We are updating the status of Voice search on google.com doesn’t work from Planned for September to Planned for November. We have been hard at work to improve this feature and you can currently turn it on via command line in Canary. However, there is more work for us to complete in this space before it’s in both Dev and Canary channels by default. Keep an eye out for more updates in the future on this!

Additionally, you may have spotted in last week’s blog about What’s New in Web Experiences, users can now install themes in Edge! This week, we’re marking Support themes from the Chrome Web Store as Addressed. To use themes from other stores, remember to head to edge://extensions and turn on the setting in the bottom left to Allow extensions from other stores.

We’ll see you all for next week’s update!

Hello Insiders! Today we’re releasing build 88.0.673.0 to the Dev channel. As you can see, this is the first build from major version 88, and it’s a very special build, because it marks our first release for Linux to the Dev channel! For all the details, see Introducing Microsoft Edge preview builds for Linux. We’ve also had lots of other exciting news over the past week:
As for the changes in Edge this week:

Added features:
  • Added the ability to take a screenshot of a webpage and add ink to it.
  • Added extra error information to tabs when they crash due to sandbox conflict.
  • Improved Single Sign-On support on Mac.
  • Added a management policy to control the Edge Shopping Assistant. Note that updates to documentation and administrative templates haven’t been made yet.
  • Added a management policy to configure how URLs are copied from Edge. Note that updates to documentation and administrative templates haven’t happened yet.
  • Added a management policy to prevent the automatic redirection of incompatible websites from Internet Explorer to Edge. Note that this policy specifically prevents the installation of a component in Internet Explorer required for redirection to occur, and updates to documentation and administrative templates haven’t happened yet.
  • Added a management policy to control the automatic redirection of incompatible websites from Internet Explorer to Edge. Note that this redirection is enabled by default, and updates to documentation and administrative templates haven’t happened yet.
  • Added a management policy to hide the informational dialog that’s shown the first time an automatic redirection from an incompatible website in Internet Explorer to Edge occurs. Note that hiding this popup also disables the automatic import of user data from Internet Explorer to Edge and updates to documentation and administrative templates haven’t happened yet.
  • Deprecated the management policy to allow WebDriver to Override Incompatible Policies.
Top Feedback Summary for October 20:
Hey there, Insiders! This week is a big week, so let’s see what we’re updating!

We are truly excited to bring Linux into the family of supported operating systems for Microsoft Edge. Starting today, you can download our Edge Dev channel for Linux. To get the installer packages, you can head to our Microsoft Edge Insider site or install it directly from Microsoft’s Linux Software Repository. You can read more about the newest addition to the Edge family on our blog.

This week we’re opening up Add ability to close tabs via double-click for discussion, moving this item from Under Review to In Discussion. The team wants to know more about why you find this would be beneficial for you, so head over to the discussion thread to let us know!

A few weeks ago, we promised an update around history sync. Today, we’re updating the status from Planned for Summer to Planned for November. We know that you all are particularly excited about this feature, and we will have more details once we start rolling this into the Canary channel.

During Microsoft Ignite this year, we talked a bit about bringing kiosk mode to the new Edge. This week, we’re adding Enable kiosk mode to the list as Planned. We recently implemented the beginnings of this mode, however once we have more details we will provide an update here.

Lastly, we are updating the status of Add the ability to ink on web page content to Planned for October. While we have implemented the beginnings of this feature and some users may have seen it in Canary starting last month, we expect more users will see this in both Canary and Dev throughout the rest of this month.

Phew, this was a lot to throw at you all! Have some thoughts about this? Let us know through the feedback tool by heading to the menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback. The team wants to know your suggestions and pain points. Until our next update!
