Serious Discussion Microsoft Edge Stable (Chromium) Now Available for Download

Version 125.0.2535.79: May 30, 2024
Fixed various bugs and performance issues, improved reliability.

Announcement

Microsoft Defender Application Guard extension deprecation. Because Application Guard is deprecated, there won't be a migration to Edge Manifest V3. The corresponding extensions and associated Windows Store app will not be available after May 2024. This affects the following browsers: Application Guard Extension - Chrome and Application Guard Extension - Firefox. If you want to block unprotected browsers until you're ready to retire MDAG usage in your enterprise, we recommend using AppLocker policies or Microsoft Edge management service. For more information, see Microsoft Edge and Microsoft Defender Application Guard, Deprecated features in the Windows client - What's new in Windows, and Microsoft Defender Application Guard - Windows Security.

Improved reliability

  • Fixed a browser crash which occurred on startup in cases where the profile information was cached in an incorrect format.

Fixes

  • Resolved an issue which affected the "View in File Explorer" option in SharePoint Online.

I don't know which update added this setting. I found it enabled through no fault of my own.
Code:
Save screenshots of sites for history
They definitely announced it as a feature and there were concerned articles written. All they had to do is ask the user if they wanted to use it or not. Although I see nothing useful about this outside of some sort of surveillance or AI training. It was probably a step in their plans for Recall.

Edit: it was off by default in canary. Who knows what changed. If I don’t have an internet connection I don’t need a dated screenshot of a page personally.

Not a fan of those pins below sites on NTP. Pins should only show when user mouse cursor over it.

MS does not care much about ergonomics, they just put random features here and there and expect what happens.
When I see the default Edge after a clean install, I want to puke. I like clean Edge, the current picture fits the temperature.

Default Edge after clean install is just ugly I agree. Unfortunately only Edge has all the features I need. I have tried switching several times but I always comes back to Edge after seeing issues in Chrome (& Other Chromium based ones) and Firefox.

I’ve been keeping an eye on the Edge updates and it’s great to see the stable download links are finally live. It’s been interesting to follow the progress through the Canary, Dev, and Beta channels, but having the stable version available is a big step forward.

What do you mean? Stable releases have been available for 4+ years.
