That figure "92%" has to be the hydraulic efficiency and not the overall efficiency. Also, there are 4 reasons for splitting the water jet into two parts:
  1. More efficiency (getting more energy out of incoming water jet, you would have to draw momentum vector diagram for that to understand).
  2. Less damage to turbine because of cavitation.
  3. Increase in Lateral stability of turbine.
  4. Doesn't hit the next turbine bucket, thus preventing energy loss.

The good old days of corded phones and phonebooks. We used to get excited about some of the simplest things :) And as long as you don't look at he's only on page ~20 (not 73) and Johnson would be on about page 175...we're okay 😅
