Hi, you can still try to use Comodo Firewall + avast!
Or maybe CIS alone ...
Just try to see which one is the best (memory usage and efficient).

Both are memory efficient from my tests.

Only issue is:
CIS alone, 5.10 is fine

avast! + Comodo Firewall requires 5.12 version.

Also, user will need to see: Does he need a web protection module?

If yes, he can use avast! with CFW(5.12) or CIS (5.10) with K9 Web Protection.

Depends on what the user is looking for in the AV department.

I guess I didn't word that correctly, what I meant to say, out of all of the firewalls that I have tried over many years, I experienced far less bugs with ZoneAlarm Free compared to all of the rest using many different systems. And yes all firewall have bugs especially the ones with HIPS, just go into any support forum and the bug report section is the largest.

Thanks.:D

If I have misunderstood your original post, I apologize up front.

I do agree with HIPS Firewalls having more issues occasionally but as we all know, every product is more of a hit or miss to some users.

One user might swear by OA Free and recommend to everyone while another user on an exact same system only see's troubles.

As for OP question:

any free av (Panda/AVG/avast!/MSE) + Comodo firewall/ZA/OA Free/Windows 7 Firewall/Windows 7 firewall + Tinywall/Windows 7 + Windows 7 firewall control/Windows 7 firewall + PrivateFirewall combos are all viable.

An alternative could be full suite CIS (free) or ZoneAlarm Free Antivirus + Firewall (both from ZA, not a combo of different vendors).

In the end of the day, you will need to test out which one you prefer:
For av:
*Do you want few processes or many processes? Do you prefer BB or other zero day?
*Do you prefer high detection rate or more prevention?

As for Firewall: What exactly are you looking in the firewall department? *Full Control of outbound connections (if so you can skip windows 7 built in firewall on its own (not the combos).
*Do you want HIPS or doesn't really matter?
*Does a particular firewall causes issues on your system or has great impact or not?

Those are the types of questions one should and could only answer for himself.

We all can give our opinions based on our experiences but the final call is the user's call.

It was my fault, I was in a hurry and didn't word things correctly.
I don't know how many polls we have here on the forum users asking what is the best, there is no correct answer because we don't know how those users will be able to handle any certain software since most are user dependent, they make the wrong choice then they will get bad results either an infection or a needed process gets blocked. Any HIPS product in the wrong user hands is a complete disaster. Most users don't want software that has to be tweaked all the time in order to function correctly and they are not willing to learn how to use them correctly.

Members don't seem to realize the facts before trying to recommend Comodo, Online Armor, etc. to users they know nothing about.

The best advice for these kind of posts is "Try it for yourself" because your experience maybe much different.

Thanks.:D

I would add this:
Ask exactly what the users are looking for (features/usability key words) in such products and we can all share the suggestions along with some pros/cons and personal experience.

Although most of the products pros/cons are scattered around the forum several times. Sometimes I even think I have a dejavu :)

But yeah, fully agree!

Comodo's AV detection isn't the greatest. In my time using Comodo, it has gotten more false positives than Avast. Avast's AV is better in my opinion.

That said, CIS's defense+ will catch any malware that your AV will miss

I voted "other" My experience with Comodo firewall was that it was a bit buggy.Might be better today but I am going back some years.I used Eset Av with Zone Alarm firewall for a very long time and preferred that combo over Eset AV & Comodo Firewall.I'm not saying anything bad about Comodo,I think it is excellent as far as the standalone Firewall and I really havent tried CIS to comment on it.I presently use KIS 2013 on some machines and Eset Smart Security on others.I am just a big fan of Zone Alarm firewall which combined with ESET Av kept my machines clean for many years.I do like Avast AV,it is very good and the price is right. So for my other choice,I would choose Avast AV & Zone Alarm Firewall{free}.Just for the Free + Free = Free factor

**I would really like to try ESET AV & Zone Alarm firewall again, maybe Littlebits or someone else that uses ZA could comment on that combo seeing as how I havent used those together since Eset versions 2 & 3

Avast + Comodo since I've used it and it worked well. Also I think avast is better than comodo in terms of antivirus :)

how to use Avast Free Antivirus + Comodo Internet Security
Avast free + Comodo Firewall for experienced users :p since u have to configure some settings like disable avast free sandbox and enable comodo firewall's sandbox to partially limited, and then allow all process and exceptions. But if u want free Internet Security Suite only Free then u can use Comodo Internet Security
Thanks :D

Protection when you are surfing :D
I see Comodo to be more of a FW/HIPS specialist and Avast as an Anti-virus :p but thats just me,
thats why i m using CFW+AVAST
Both Antivirus has a good detection rate, a variance of few %age should be much of a deciding factor, rest you will have to choose on your own preference ;)
