What i don't understand is this. Ok, i am not connecting to the web right now, but what bugs me is: This is a security forum, with a malware hub no less. In all other sectors, people make comparisons. How come nobody, instead of stating his opinions or ad hominem arguments (Ad hominem - Wikipedia), while at the same time asks not to mind the words of the speech, didn't ask to do, for the sake of the AVERAGE JOE (!!!) , who can't upgrade to Windows 10 for one or the other reason , a test, and recommend, IF POSSIBLE, IF IT EXISTS, some configuration, that is let's say roughly on par with Windows 10 + WD, which is what the "average Joe" would use with Windows 10 out of the box, so that the poor Windows 7 user that has unsupported hardware or no Windows 10 license or no will, can stay reasonably safe?

You don't want that? Make a big sticky with capital letters "ADVICE TO AVERAGE JOE NOW THAT Windows 7 IS EOL".

Instead you have this happening...

Oh well...
If I'm a 'user who can't use win10 for some reason', consider alternatives like Linux.

I am also a member of Avenger Joe. Joe may take the word 'dangerous but safe' as 'safe' because he tends to interpret it in his favor.
In Japan, there is a dish that eats poisonous fish raw. Although cooked by a qualified cook is safe, Avenger Joe imitates the cook and produces several fatalities each year.

I feel that the difference between a quarrel and a debate should be calm and understood. Opposition can lead to revitalization, but personal attacks have no productivity. I have experienced in this forum that many different opinions are sources of my thinking. Opposition is not hostility.

Solid post!(y)

I agree wholeheartedly that there are other OS options like linux that one can use of they want a more update OS, but dont want to buy new computer. Unless the user needs certain Windows apps, or is a gamer (there are options to game on Linux), they will more then likely be fine with Linux. If you do need Windows, well at some point you will have to buy new hardware. You don't need top of the line to do it either.

As to differing opinions I agree. Not everyone will have the exact same opinion and that's totally fine. It's what makes discussion like this one great. You may not always agree, but you may learn something new, something you may have never considered. You can still have differing opinions and have a great friendly conversation at the same time. Sadly, as I watch the time go by, I feel like society and the world as a whole is going down a very dark path. Whether its politics, or discussions like this one, it just feels like everyone is as each other throat. There seems to be this mentality that if you dont share the exact same opinion as me, you are my enemy. Before people could talk politics, have differing opinions and still get along fine, now there's no chance.

Hopefully the light will shine through and everyone can start getting along again.(y):emoji_beer:

If you really wanted to continue using Windows 7, yes you can. The dooms day scenarios some people project are unnecessary and rubbish, you can get killed even if you live inside a prison right ? Why logically project things and worry based on if, when, this, that etc ? Hackers have little to no time to target and hack a home user. Just use what one feels better. Obsessing too much about security or anything is a disease. The security setup you mentioned is really strong for your purpose.

People are concerned about 7, yet many ATMs are still running XP. It was 95% ATMs in 2014. India had force banks to upgrade recently.
Windows 7 will be here for another 10-20 years, it has much better driver/software support, it is more reliable than XP and it has no telemetry.
NTLite can remove features and components to make it less vulnerable. I was using it like that for a year, with no AV/firewall and using IE7 only.

Windows has had telemetry since the Vista days through CEIP and that includes Windows XP (all this telemetry nonsense and lies spread the media that made you think telemetry is exclusive to W10), the ATMs network is closed, and the terminals are not accessible from the front.

The fact that it is not completely completed, such as the distribution of a paid extended security program, is also a factor that deters users.

It is my own imagination, but I feel that ESU will be unofficially distributed among users who would not have access to it. It is a program that os users who have lost support and weak armor want to obtain it strongly. If I'm a malicious prank lover, I think this is a useful bait.

Previously the telemetry was basic. Even Windows 10 own Privacy Settings suggest, how much there are now, related to ADs, apps, Cortana, sync.
You have to understand that Windows is not open source, nobody knows what is there.
Luckily, when Windows "thinks", that there is no internet, it does not even try to connect.

Yes it did, but it was voluntarily; you could always turn off CEIP completely (if it wasn't already turned off by default). On the other hand, in Windows 10 you cannot off telemetry; you can only choose between Basic and Full.

You can still turn off CEIP on Windows 10, the same way as before.

Media made up the whole personal data on Windows 10, cause they had nothing else to complain about (after the Windows 8 disaster), all it takes is Windows 10 checking for updates and sending Microsoft Servers data about the Updates you already have, for someone with Wireshark to made up that Microsoft gathers personal data (without actually having knownledge on what data is being sent).

I refuse to speak of this further though, is a waste of time, I rather let you all fear and believe nonsense.

+1, not mentioning some critical processes that cant be disabled/removed if you want use Windows properly.

Anyway complaining about Windows telemetry and data mining while keep using Windows is nonsense and just being a fool...
For my daily usage, i use Windows, i don't care much what is mined (porn sites, where i shop online? who cares) so Win10 is perfect for it (cherry on the cake, i can "supposedly" disable all telemetry on my Win10 Enterprise); but if i do more sensitive/shady stuff, then my Linux system is here for that.
