It is very good. However, I'm not sure it'll stay free. I don't see how they can afford that. Terabyte's IFW is also very, very, good and comparatively cheap.

I don't mind if I have to pay for Hasleo as long as I can pay a fixed amount for a certain version, let's say from 5.0 to 5.9 then decide if I want to pay for an upgrade to version 6. I avoid subscriptions like the plague. That's why I have a Nitro Pro license instead of paying the crazy price for Adobe Acrobat, for instance.

There is also O&O DiskImage, not free though - I've used it in the past, but never used it to actually restore my backup. I've only used macrium to restore once and had no problems.

Open source isn’t a magical panacea. Most projects are run by people working themselves into the ground until they either can’t afford to do it anymore or aren’t healthy enough anymore. And everybody hollers about how safe open source code is, but nobody is checking that stuff. That’s why recently projects like xz utils have been compromised and people act surprised.

I can’t blame a company for trying to stay profitable, nor can I blame a customer for trying to save money. The current landscape for software is pretty dire. Personally I would rather subscribe to Macrium than chase free projects constantly jumping ship as they go under. But, who knows Macrium could also go under. And I am tired of subscriptions, too.

Ghost used to be the thing, now the one that people place their trust in is Macrium and for good reason. It is super reliable, I've never had a problem with it, unlike some of the other "BIG" names.

I will gladly pay for version 10, as long as their have been some nice changes, possibly to the UI. just to support them. But I will always have my lifetime license for V8 too.

So if you like V10, buy a one year subscription just to help keep the lights on and food on their table. All thew while realizing you have V8, if you don't want to buy year 2 and beyond.

A few days ago I renewed my subscription for Macrium Reflect for another year. 83.98 euros for 4 licenses. A few days later I got 21.00 euros refunded. I think 62.98 euros for 4 licenses is a reasonable price. Macrium Reflect has always worked reliably and conveniently. I am very happy with this software, as I have had bad experiences with other backup software.

I have been running macrium & got email about X but been too busy to read it today. In the remote past I used Terabytes and it was rock solid when others weren't way back then. I will look at Terabytes again, and Hasleo too.

is it legal to say that Acronis borked my HDD -- although that was in very remote past, I never touched Acronis again. A few months ago when I wasn't really thinking about it I did renew my macrium, but I am now on lookout for alternatives. I sorta never think about backups, as I think macrium is working aok overnight -- or every time I have looked at the external drive things look correct & updated. But gee I should be paying more attention to this.

A few months ago when I wasn't really thinking about it I did renew my macrium, but I am now on lookout for alternatives. I sorta never think about backups, as I think macrium is working aok overnight -- or every time I have looked at the external drive things look correct & updated. But gee I should be paying more attention to this.

I already pay annually & consider one of the few worthy purchases - I shan't be moving from Macrium, I've tried alternatives & for me Macrium is by far the most reliable having been 100% reliable - Probably the most valuable program I have on a PC.

It will not.
I am a translator of their program and there are items about payment in the text. I asked about that and got confirmed that, they will begin charging in the future when they consider the program fully developed for their purpose.

Since they are a Chinese company the amount will probably be very fair just like other Chinese programs, compared to other similar programs. But that is something i do not have to bother about since i get it for free as long as i translate .

Not keen on the subscription model either but Macrium has never given me any problems so I'll see what offers they have on launch ~ if they have a multi-year introductory offer I might jump from v8.

Edit: I see that if you cancel the subscription the software is downgraded to 'restore only' functionality which is pretty poor. Looks like I'll be looking for alternatives too. Some reviews of the alternatives/reliability etc would be valuable as I'm sure there'll be quite a few Macrium users in the same boat.

Hasleo's Backup Suite are Terabyte's Image for Windows are the only hot-imaging apps that have been consistently reliable for me.

I had the same experience with Acronis.
Since then I said goodbye to this software.
I couldn't do a restore either because the Acronis backup no longer worked.
All partitions gone, reformatted, repartitioned, all programs reinstalled.

The thing that really bother me, and why I can no longer support Macrium in any way, shape, or form, is that they are flat-out lying to its users. They said the results of a poll they conducted said that users prefer the perpetual license, and they're using that as justification to say that's why they are no longer using the one-time-fee model. The thing is, that's a lie. When asked:

YES: 7.63% - 10 votes
NO: 68.7% - 90 votes
DEPENDS on lease deal: 23.66% - 31 voters

Macrium is not telling the truth here. And that means they've allowed themselves the ability to get lazy, using the perpetual license as an excuse to stop innovation; they now have a revenue stream regardless of if they improve the product. Users now no longer have to see improvement in order to fork over their monies.

I currently have paid macrium subscription and agree, but I do remember Terabytes being bulletproof but less automatic in old'n times. Yes value in having good backup. I once had hdd crash with all my stuff on it, local techies could not get data off, I ended up sending the hdd to an out of state specialist (I forget who) and 98%+ was recovered and "only" cost $999.99

Yeah that does sound familiar, your memory is better than mine, but yes that is exactly what happened with me & Acronis once upon a time...

For now, yes, it's freeware. It will soon be paid software.
