I was lucky enough to outright, from the first attempt, get the new Avastified Norton 360, known as version 24.60
The new Norton for Mac is incredible experience.
The interface is very fresh, bold, smooth, animated and is lighting years ahead of what Norton was offering so far. That's not to say that the previous UX was bad, but the new experience feels much more modern and less corporate, serious, boring and all other "superlatives" that were easy to apply till now.
Security-wise it combines Norton's super light IPS for Mac (consisting of few attack signatures, not to be confused with the Windows one maintained by Symantec), as well as Avast Remote Desktop Protection. Settings are what we've come to expect from Avast-powered product.
Instead of displaying notifications for every event, it can provide weekly summary - feature I absolutely love the sound of.
Adding exclusions
Smart firewall is available, so I am able to control and monitor my internet traffic. It has been developed for the Norton products and is not available in Avast.
Under Browser Protection, we've got the typical Avast Web Shield, which seems to have been combined with the Norton extension. It now takes care of HTTPS connections, as well as checks downloads instantly (most probably against Avast's massive database). Some websites are blocked by Norton SafeWeb, others by web shield, third by both. For those who don't know, SafeWeb is a Norton Patent and never belonged to Symantec. No idea why content is not fed to the Avast system.
Under performance, CCleaner-powered, Avast-enabled experience exists, that allows deep Junk cleanup (partially useful), as well as startup manager which can also be found in Mac's native settings panel. Nevertheless, novice users may benefit from these features.
Under Privacy, VNP is available, which includes Gen Digital's newly patented Mimic Protocol.
The Avast definitions set is full, covers malware for all platforms, including Windows and is 325.4MB currently. Streaming definitions are delivered as well. The app (package size only) is 237.2 MB. CPU and GPU usage seem to be the absolute minimal, not exceeding 0.4-5% most of the time, scan times are very short, memory usage is about 300MB.
