New Update ESET v18

I tried ESET Essential on Windows 11 24H2. Windows Security reports ESET is in use, but Task Manager shows Defender processes active. Do Defender processes run even if you have a third-party antivirus?

If the third-party product has Firewall then Defender process doesn't remain active according to Emsisoft support. ESET Essential means ESET Internet Security which has firewall so not sure what happened there. I'm using the Premium version and have no active Defender process.

Do you have periodic scanner with Defender turned on or Smart Application Control active? Those will have defender running in task manager.

I had Defender periodic scanner disabled and SAC on evaluation mode when I tried ESET.

With SAC in evaluation mode you'll see defender continue to appear in task manager. If you turn off SAC then it'll disappear, assuming you also have periodic scanning turned off as well.

I never faced this issue. Maybe a random bug or a bug related to the "always repair detection" option. Since that option is not default, they are probably not even aware of the bug. I'm just speculating, don't know for sure.

It was a PUA. But it doesn't change the fact that it deleted the file. There might be a bug. Or maybe I made a mistake somewhere. I don't know. It happened. Which doesn't change the fact that I have a very good opinion of this product. Except that it's a product for an advanced user. There are too many settings and you can mess things up.

over the years my Macs have been borked by 3d-party security software. Lately I do run Malwarebytes on macOS as higher level Apple tech told me safe to use. But I'm not an Apple_geek -- I use my mini for limited purposes.

Limiting such an important security feature to Ultimate would be ridiculous, especially when their competition (Kaspersky and BitDefender) include it in their basic products.

Agree, and maybe this post is to string us along through the end (later) of the year to "wait" for a decision? So we're to renew our subscription if it's expiring before that time, hoping for it to happen? I don't think so.

I think ransomware is now pretty much corporate/enterprise only. Yes I know the odd home user gets zapped but it's not 2015 anymore.

I don't mind missing out if licenses are reasonable or cheaper (they won't be I know), Ultimate subs are ridiculously priced anyway..

I see that they have released that option before 18.2 release. On my 18.1.13 version there is already this option.
